The Picts left very few written records, but we can deduce quite a lot about how they organised their society. Our information comes from a range of sources, including archaeological remains, accounts written by outsiders and evidence from the stones and other artefacts.

One crucial development was the conversion to Christianity. This occurred over many decades, but clearly had a major impact on Pictish culture.
