who were the picts?

The Picts were first mentioned by a Roman chronicler around AD 300. They were a dominant force in what is now Scotland for at least 600 years.

This section gives a brief introduction to the Pictish people: who they were, how their society was organised and how their history unfolded. It also introduces the stones and other artefacts they left as evidence of a rich and complex society.
